Burqa + Bikini = Burqini

The  new design of the Islamic swimsuit is turning heads on and off the beach.  The suit blends East and West in many ways and is creatively called a "burqini."  Designers have taken on the challenge of providing Muslim women with a covered up suit, yet others are catching on to the convenience of having their bodies and hair covered while on the beach.  Conservative women and those concerned with skin diseases, UV rays and other health issues are also jumping on board this new wave of beach wear.  In fact, perhaps men should consider coming up with their own version!  Please post on this topic, ladies of 8R, and tell us what you think of this new beach wear.

Seems like a good innovation. In my opinion, according to the rationality of Islamic rules and regulations it is perfectly all right.

The burqini swimsuite designers have challenged of providing muslim women with a covered up suite, for my own openion, i think it is amazing to have this kind of suite and it helped alot of muslim women and also women who are not confortable with their own body, and if any of them have any diseases, also this suit gave an impretion to others about muslims and their cultures and how do they live even when they are out of their own cuntry, muslims would like to feel confortable while they are on the beach.

Umair Jafri - why dont men cover up with more conservative suits on the beach as well - in your opinion.  Thanks for stopping by.

Mocha_Bayluk - I agree with you, yet suspect the less covered up people on the beaches will wonder why others are covered up and feel uncomfortable with the new trend.  What do you think?  And should this be a concern for those opting to wear the burqini?

The Burqini sweimsuite design by saudi women (bikini plus burq)I think it's invention of a good assistant.Alot of muslime women are not comfortable when they wear bikini also,it's forbidden in the Islamic religion. There are many countries which do not permit wear bikini, according civilizations and traditions not only in the Islamic religion. In my openion this is amazing to have Burqini.Muslims would like to have fun and feel comfortable.

The designer is a company called Ahiida and products can be viewed at www.ahiida.com - its actually not a Saudi designer.  However, some Saudis do wear the burqa, which is the Islamic hijab that covers the body, hair and face, which is where Ahiida found inspiration for the clever new design in swim wear they call the "burqini."

For both men and women, the Traditional Dress is a bit unconfortable - especially when it comes to going on beaches, bays, shoreline or going out for fun. When many guys meet up together - they obviously need to be a little casual (unless it is a formal meeting) so that they can enjoy, play some sport, run, walk normally and so on.

Some people may also beleive that the Traditional Dresses may look ODD, to other people on these public places - due to globalization effect.

According to islam , women shouldnt take of their abayas and hejab in swimming pools , so they prefair watching other people swimming. Most of the women liked the burkini , they feel comfortable in any place they swim. Plus , its helpful to those people who have diaseases or they are shy to expose their bodies to people. I think its good idea in this case , bad idea because beaches and swimming pools will become full of burkinis and non muslim people may feel strange. also it may cause problems between them unless if there is another beach for them . It is good idea because in our relegion it is forbidden to wear bikinis and show our skin to men .

No one should be concerned about the burqini suit, it might annoy alot pf people who are less covered up in the beaches but at the same time everyone should think about it as its a free thing to do and at the same time its nice to know the culture and thoughts of other countries, however it is an openion for everyone, if they would like to have the burqini suit or not :) that's what i think :)

Good Day to all of you.

In fact, the swimwear for muslim women is not an invention of Ahiida as you believe.
Ahiida Managing Director, Aheda Zanetti was fooling the world with the help of aussie media that she invented something new like Thomas Edison.

For those who dont believe me, please read the following link.
On Tuesday, 5 September, 2000, By Caroline Hawley reported this story to BBC from Cairo

Warm welcome for 'Sharia swimsuit'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/910379.stm

And even turkish muslims are very familiar with such swim wear for long time.

Aheda marketed it well with huge margin which compelled plenty of alternative suppliers to offer it now for reasonable price.

Thanks everyone for commenting, its so great to see an active discussion!  Active Muslimah, thank you for stopping by and for giving us an article to read.  More reading and writing is what we are after with our blogging project.  We, the bloggers here, are primarily Muslim women and have traveled across the region, thus have seen and bought Muslim swimwear, not called the burqini, before, by other lesser known designers. Thus do realize that Muslim swimwear is not an invention of the Ahiida company, but the “burqini” is.  We are discussing the burqini as invented and marketed by Ahiida, we are not talking about Muslim swimwear alone in this discussion. The active branding of Muslim swimwear and dubbing it a catchy name, the “burqini,” is due to the marketing of Ahiida.  This burqini marketing campaign is what has generated knowledge of the originally Muslim-only swimwear to the mainstream public, including non-Muslims.  This is what our discussion has been about - Muslim swimwear catching on and what that means to the beaches of the world and for beach-goers, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
